FRISCO—The Washington Commanders and general manager Adam Peters have done a lot to provide head coach Dan Quinn the offensive pieces he needs to be successful. They have also traded for Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel to help young quarterback Jayden Daniels.
However, what about when the ball is in the defensive position?
That has received less attention than the attacking side throughout the offseason, no doubt. On Tuesday, the Commanders announced the addition of defensive tackle Carl Davis Jr. to their roster, demonstrating how small things can have a big impact.
The 6-5, 320-pound Davis, a former third-round choice who has played for eight different clubs over the course of a ten-year career at the age of 33, is undoubtedly a journeyman.
Davis played in three games for the Commanders in 2024 and was in Washington, DC, last year. During that period, he recorded four tackles.
He was a member of the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad prior to coming here, and when he did have a chance to play, he recorded three tackles.
After joining the league as a Ravens pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Davis played for the Patriots, Jaguars, Colts, and Browns before joining the two NFC East teams.
In 78 career games, Davis has 71 tackles, 2.5 sacks, three passes defensed, and a fumble recovery. He will attempt to compete for a rotational place in Quinn’s defense.
