The Atlanta Falcons have officially signed veteran linebacker Dre Greenlaw to a one-year contract worth $5.5 million, including $4 million guaranteed. The move adds much-needed experience and toughness to Atlanta’s defense as they look to contend in the NFC South.
Greenlaw, 26, has spent his entire NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers, earning a reputation as a hard-hitting, instinctive linebacker with playoff pedigree. He played a key role in the 49ers’ Super Bowl runs and is expected to bring leadership and versatility to the Falcons’ front seven.
Atlanta’s front office has been aggressive this offseason, and Greenlaw’s addition is another signal that the team is serious about making a playoff push under new head coach Raheem Morris.
Greenlaw’s familiarity with defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake’s system—stemming from their overlapping time in the NFC—could make his transition seamless. If healthy, he’ll likely slot in as a starter immediately.
This low-risk, high-reward signing could prove crucial in stabilizing the Falcons’ linebacker corps.
