With Tuesday night’s 2-0 loss to the Red Sox, the Mets have their first three-game losing streak of the season.
That encouraged owner Steve Cohen to join X.
“Welcome to the ups and downs of a baseball season,” Cohen tweeted Tuesday night. “This, too, will pass.” LGM.”
The Mets started well but have dropped off in recent days. On Monday night, they fell out of first position in the National League East for the first time since April 9.
The losses come amid widespread speculation that Juan Soto, who signed a $765 million contract with the Mets this offseason, is dissatisfied with his new team and is not giving his all on the bases.
One day after struggling to get out of the batter’s box and to first base against the Yankees, Soto was slow again against the Boston Red Sox on Monday night, hitting a ball off the Green Monster in the sixth inning. Soto stood and looked at the ball, which he plainly thought was a home run, before jogging to first for a base single. Soto immediately swiped second base in his next at-bat.
Following the loss, Soto was asked if he was “slow getting out of the box.”
“No, I think I have been hustling very hard,” the man replied. “If you saw it today, you could tell.”
