JUST IN: Dolphins’ Head Coach Mike McDaniel Shares Trade Update On Dolphins’ Jalen Ramsey Amid Huge Twist

Jalen Ramsey, an All-Pro cornerback, has been on the trade block for more than a month, with little progress on any potential deals. When Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier confirmed Ramsey’s availability, many teams reportedly expressed interest in the cornerback.

However, there hasn’t been much progress on trade talks until a recent report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter. Schefter claimed on Twitter/X that trade talks involving Ramsey are heating up, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Schefter says, “There’s more trade interest in Jalen Ramsey than people realize.” This update is encouraging for the Dolphins, and while no specific teams are mentioned, it is a positive news during the ongoing trade talks.

Ramsey’s high demand isn’t surprising, but having more interest than expected is a good sign that the Dolphins can obtain a reasonable return for the All-Pro cornerback.

More teams participating in trade conversations are likely to drive up the price. While the current asking price is unknown, the Dolphins would be wise to get a second-round pick in exchange for Ramsey.

If the Dolphins were initially only receiving third-round selection offers for Ramsey, the increased competition may raise the offers to a second-round pick.

In Jackson’s piece, he states that a deal for Ramsey would not materialize, or would not become official, until after June 1. The reason for this is Ramsey’s contract.

If the Dolphins move Ramsey before June 1st, they will take on more than $25 million in dead cap space while saving just over $8 million. On the other hand, dealing Ramsey with a post-June 1 designation would result in a $6.7 million dead cap hit and a $9.9 million cap savings.

Mike McDaniel: Eager to get Jalen Ramsey out there, but we'll be smart

Financially, moving Ramsey after June first is the only way the Dolphins trade him. Being patient will likely net the Dolphins better return for him as well, as a team could become desperate due to an injury in training camp, or a dwingling free agent pool.

The seven-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro has been the subject of trade rumors for over a month. Finally, those trade talks are heating up. With more teams interest in Ramsey than before, the Dolphins could be looking at a good return when they eventually trade the star cornerback.
