The Miami Dolphins have a glaring need for an outside cornerback following the draft. They signed Jason Marshall Jr. on day three, but there is still a need, even before the potential Jalen Ramsey trade.
According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald on Twitter/X, the Dolphins invited Rasul Douglas, a former Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl winner, to visit.
However, despite the visit, Douglas did not sign a contract with Miami. He went away from Miami without a contract and is now reportedly visiting the Seattle Seahawks.
Douglas would be an excellent addition for the Dolphins, as he has eight years of starting experience in the NFL, including playoff appearances with the Eagles in 2017, the Green Bay Packers in 2021, and the Bills the previous two seasons.
In 80 starts over eight seasons, Douglas has 19 interceptions, three pick-sixes, three forced fumbles, two sacks, 441 combined tackles, and 23 tackles for loss.
Douglas has performed admirably as an outside cornerback in the NFL. Douglas would be an ideal addition to the Dolphins’ secondary, given the looming Ramsey trade and the team’s lack of depth.
The Dolphins’ current cornerback corps of Storm Duck, Cam Smith, Kader Kohou, Artie Burns, and Marshall Jr. is inadequate. Even if Ramsey were included, the cornerback area would still need to be upgraded. However, with Ramsey expected to be moved, the Dolphins sorely need outside cornerback help.
However, Jackson’s report does not bode well for the Dolphins’ pursuit of an outside cornerback. The Dolphins appear to be out of the Douglas sweepstakes, after Douglas left Miami without a deal and visited another team.
Adding an outside cornerback is a primary need for the Dolphins, and losing Douglas would limit their possibilities. While Douglas is not technically off the table, the fact that the meeting ended without a contract raises concerns for the Dolphins.
