The Cleveland Browns have made headlines this offseason for their decisions regarding the franchise’s quarterback position.
Yes, the addition of Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel to Cleveland’s quarterback room has been as newsworthy as anything from the 2025 NFL draft. However, on Monday the franchise announced it is taking a flier on an undrafted rookie who impressed during the team’s minicamp this past week.
Former Western Kentucky Hilltoppers wide receiver Kisean Johnson has agreed to terms with the Browns, according to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz. While Johnson did not play in a Power 5 conference, Western Kentucky has long been known for its dynamic offensive approach, and the newest Brown put up remarkable numbers this past season, earning All-Conference USA honors.
Prior to his spectacular one-year stay with the Hilltoppers, Johnson was a highly regarded FCS wide receiver. In 2023, he was named to FCS Football Central’s All-America Third Team as well as First Team All-SWAC.
Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 216 pounds, Johnson has a good build that could certainly add additional muscle to help handle the lengthy and difficult regular season without surrendering any athleticism. Given the physical nature of the NFL, particularly when compared to the level at which Johnson previously played, the fact that he can still bulk up is a good thing.
With Jerry Jeudy, Cedric Tillman, and Dionte Johnson presumably locked in as the team’s top three wide receivers, Johnson will most likely attempt to make an impact as a depth player in the receiver room or on special teams.
Johnson’s most difficult task is nearly complete; he has successfully gotten his foot in the door in Cleveland. Now, it is up to him to take advantage of this opportunity and discover where the cards might eventually lie.
