JUST IN: Mets’ Pete Alonso Asks Perfect ‘Angry’ Question About Potential Grudges

Pete Alonso, the New York Mets’ outstanding first baseman, was brutally honest when asked if he had any ill will toward the team’s front staff. The four-time All-Star was unable to strike a long-term extension with the organization, so he signed a short-term contract with a player option after the first year. Despite the uncertainty, Alonso is off to an excellent start in 2025. The 30-year-old has a.320 hitting average, nine home runs, 34 RBIs, and the fourth best OPS in the MLB.

In a recent interview with USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, Alonso outlined his reasons for staying with the Mets and why he is optimistic about the future.

“Honestly, why I would be angry? This group believes in me since I was 21 years old. They are the squad that drafted me. They are the team that phoned me. They did not exchange me. So, I believe they like me. This is a fantastic group, with a wonderful culture and individuals. I’ve developed many positive ties here, with the fans, coaches, teammates, security guards, clubhouse management, and everyone else. It’s pretty unique.
So that contributed heavily in my decision to return. I get to play on a winning team that had a fantastic postseason last year.

You could see every promise we had. We had a lot of positive momentum. I did not want to leave that. So, playing for a winning organization is my top priority. And there is no bigger stage than New York.”

After a Cinderella run to the NLCS last season, the Mets’ hopes for 2025 remain as high as ever. The team has recruited ace right fielder Juan Soto and is projected to reach its first World Series since 2015.

So far, New York is 25-15 and leads the NL East. The Philadelphia Phillies, who also have championship-sized expectations, are making their way back into the competition and are only two games behind.

Overall, the Mets will rely heavily on Alonso to lead them to another deep playoff run. The slugger has made multiple big plays for New York during the regular season and in October. Alonso must continue this pattern as the Mets begin their methodical march to the World Series.
