Miami Heat club president Pat Riley stated unequivocally that the franchise does not intend to run it again next season.
Whether this means pursuing a superstar on the trade market, like as Kevin Durant or Giannis Antetokounmpo, or acquiring young players who can grow further remains to be seen. If Riley and the Heat’s front team choose the latter option, Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga is an excellent choice.
ClutchPoints forecasts that Miami will pursue Kuminga in restricted free agency, hoping to outbid the Warriors.
“If the Heat want to swing for upside without compromising financial flexibility, then restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga is an ideal target,” according to ClutchPoints’ Enzo Flojo. “At 22 years old, Kuminga is only scraping the surface of his abilities. Miami could be the ideal setting to unlock it.”
Kuminga, who averaged 15.3 points and 4.6 rebounds on 45.4 percent shooting in the 2025 regular season, has slipped almost entirely out of Golden State’s playoff rotation. It’s unclear whether the Warriors would even bother making a major offer to retain him in town.
As Flojo pointed out, the Heat’s development system is one of the greatest in the NBA. While Kuminga’s present level of performance does not warrant a large contract, he still has plenty of time to develop into an All-Star.
