The San Antonio Spurs urgently need Victor Wembanyama to make the postseason next year. Despite having a generational talent and an All-Star point guard in De’Aaron Fox, making the Western Conference playoffs is easier said than done.
Fortunately, some of the best players may be on the trade block. While the Spurs could pursue Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason, the Boston Celtics, who have done a good job of hoarding some of the NBA’s top role players, may open their wallets.

Since being moved from the Spurs in an attempt to tank (it worked!), White has developed into a fringe All-Star, All-Defensive player, and, most importantly, a winner.
In 2022, the Spurs traded White for a first-round pick, a swap, Josh Richardson, and Romeo Langford. It’s safe to assume he won’t return for nearly as cheap.
Full Mock Trade Details
Spurs receive: Derrick White.
Celtics receive: Harrison Barnes and Keldon Johnson. 2025 first-round selection (via Atlanta); 2027 first-round pick (via Atlanta). 2028 pick swap back (BOS owns); 2030 pick swap (via DAL or MIN)
Given that Mikal Bridges cost the Knicks five selections, this transaction represents a steal for the Spurs. The Celtics are not rebuilding, but rather trying to save money, so win-now guys must be involved.
The Spurs might start De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Derrick White, Jeremy Sochan, and Victor Wembanyama, with Devin Vassell, Julian Champagnie, a rookie, and potentially Chris Paul coming off the bench.
White provides much-needed spacing while also elevating San Antonio’s defensive mentality.
