HUGE CHOAS: NFL Faces Brutal Backlash Over Shedeur Sanders Announcement

Shedeur Sanders was previously regarded as an early Day 1 choice in the 2025 NFL draft. But when the selection process began earlier this summer, the Colorado quarterback prospect dropped all the way to the fifth round.

Sanders was selected with the 144th overall pick by the Cleveland Browns. The Browns selected the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders as their second quarterback in the draft, after only Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel (No. 94 overall).

Sanders now joins a crowded QB room in Cleveland that includes Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Gabriel. It’s evident that the 23-year-old signal caller has a long way to go before the Browns consider him a viable starting quarterback option.

On Tuesday, the Browns revealed the jersey numbers for their 2025 rookie class.

Sanders, who wore No. 2 during his college career, will now wear No. 12 in Cleveland.

The NFL also used social media to reveal Sanders’ new jersey number, which upset some fans.

“The 144th pick in the draft is receiving more artificial attention than the first through 143rd picks in the draft. Dude is around fifth in his own quarterback depth chart… Maybe show little more love to the 143 other players picked ahead of this man,” one fan remarked.

“What number does the 143 pick wear? “Just asking,” another said.

“The NFL hasn’t posted a rookie jersey number in a while…” “An interesting choice for the first one,” another observed.

“They literally drafted Dillon Gabriel earlier and did not reveal his jersey number, LMFAO. This is ridiculous. “Sanders will be the most hyped backup quarterback we’ve ever seen,” another wrote.

DeAndre Carter, a veteran wide receiver, will wear No. 2 for the Browns this season.
