Zac Gallen, the Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher, will soon have plenty of suitors for his services. The New York Mets and New York Yankees are expected to be interested in the pitcher when he becomes a free agency, according to USA Today.
“Gallen, who will be a sought-after free agent this winter, clearly enjoys pitching in New York.” He’s 2-0 with a 0.71 ERA and 21 strikeouts in two starts this season at Citi Field and Yankee Stadium, compared to 0-4 with a 7.01 ERA elsewhere,” Bob Nightengale said for the publication.
Gallen’s record with the Diamondbacks this season is 2-4 with a 4.93 ERA. He has made seven game appearances.
Arizona is 17-16 on the season entering Sunday. The club is six games back in the National League West, despite winning only three of their last ten games.
Zac Gallen will attract interest from numerous MLB organizations.
The Mets and Yankees are only two teams that are expected to compete for Gallen. Both clubs are regarded as World Series hopefuls. Both teams are also seeking for quality pitching.
Gallen’s last appearance this season was against the Mets. He finished the game with one earned run and two hits after six innings of work.
“Since I’ve been here in 2019, Citi Field has kind of been a house of horrors for us,” Gallen remarked following the game, according to AZ Central. “For us to come in here and get the monkey off our back, especially considering they’re quite hot right now. They’re a great team.”
The veteran hurler has had a tough start to the season. His earned run average is the highest it has been since the 2021 season. Gallen finished the year with an ERA of 4.30.
The Diamondbacks’ pitcher was chosen an All-Star in 2023. That season, Gallen was also named to the All-MLB First Team. Gallen has won at least 12 bouts in each of the last three seasons. He won a career-high 17 games in that remarkable 2023 season.
The Diamondbacks face the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.
