In February, the San Antonio Spurs made their first blockbuster trade to support Victor Wembanyama, acquiring All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox. With NBA speculations circulating regarding a potential Giannis Antetokounmpo trade, it appears San Antonio is set to make another big move.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Spurs plan to question the Milwaukee Bucks about Antetokounmpo this summer. Furthermore, there have been rumors that San Antonio might be the destination for a blockbuster Kevin Durant trade this offseason.
Giannis Antetokounmpo stats (ESPN): 30.4 PPG, 11.9 RPG, 6.5 APG, 60.1% FG, and 1.2 BPG.
Antetokounmpo has been devoted to the Bucks organization, and despite many approaches, the team has showed little interest in a trade in recent years. However, guard Damian Lillard’s injured left Achilles threatens his availability for the 2025-’26 NBA season, leaving Milwaukee with no way to enhance its lineup.
With Antetokounmpo still determined to win another championship and the Bucks organization unable to provide a viable path toward that goal, many in the league believe a trade request is more likely than ever. This is why San Antonio will be one of the teams enquiring about a relocation this summer.
If the Spurs are unable to acquire the 30-year-old perennial NBA MVP candidate, Durant may be their next target. While the Phoenix Suns are adamant about not trading Devin Booker this summer, the team is lot more open to dealing Durant.
Kevin Durant stats (ESPN): 26.6 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 4.2 APG, 52.7% FG, 43% 3-point
The 36-year-old surfaced in NBA trade speculations prior to the trade deadline, when Phoenix attempted to sell him in a three-team deal with the Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat. With the team coming off a 36-win season, significant changes are on the horizon, and a Durant trade is a possibility.
San Antonio was linked to a Trae Young trade last offseason before the Atlanta Hawks elected to keep him, prompting the switch to Fox. With many young assets and future first-round picks from other clubs, the Spurs have the tools to make a deal for Durant or Antetokounmpo.
