In a blockbuster move that has sent shockwaves across the NFL, the Atlanta Falcons have officially confirmed the signing of seven-time Pro Bowl cornerback Xavien Howard, formerly of the Miami Dolphins, to a massive five-year contract. The deal is reportedly worth up to $97.5 million, including $62 million in guaranteed money, making it one of the most lucrative contracts ever given to a defensive back.
The Falcons announced the signing early Tuesday morning, following days of speculation surrounding Howard’s future after his surprise release from the Dolphins earlier this offseason. His 10-interception season in 2020 led the NFL and earned him All-Pro honors.
Now, the veteran CB will anchor a rising Falcons defense under head coach Raheem Morris, who has emphasized the importance of veteran leadership and explosive playmakers in the secondary. Pairing Howard with up-and-coming talent like A.J. Terrell instantly transforms Atlanta’s defensive backfield into one of the most formidable in the NFC.
