BREAKING: Raiders Head Coach Pete Carroll Provides Shocking Three-Word Update on Geno Smith Contract

The Las Vegas Raiders made one of the most notable offseason moves when new general manager John Spytek traded a third-round pick for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith. Because Smith had previously played for Pete Carroll, the new Raiders head coach, while the two were in Seattle, the rest of the league welcomed their reunion.

However, the deal was made official more than two weeks ago, and the Raiders have yet to announce a contract extension or an introductory press conference for the team’s new quarterback. Carroll provided an update on Smith’s contract issue during Monday’s NFL Owners Meetings.

“(We’re) working on it,” Carroll explained. While this may seem like an obvious answer and bring no comfort to Raider Nation, at least the team is in talks with their new star. Just last year, the New York Jets traded for Hassan Reddick with no intention of extending his contract, and things quickly turned ugly.

Smith and the Raiders are making progress on a new contract, and the organization has enough cap space to keep the quarterback happy. Spytek allowed several defensive starters to depart in free agency to conserve money for a big contract like Smith’s, so they might be able to give him close to $50 million per year.

While there is no rush to get a deal done, it sounds like Las Vegas is making progress nevertheless.
